Deep Sedation

All dentists or certified specialists who administer deep sedation must comply with the requirements outlined in CDSBC's:

Do you:

I intend to administer deep sedation to patients in my office

If you own a dental office and intend to administer deep sedation to your patients, you must register your qualifications with CDSBC and apply to have your facility inspected by the College before administering deep sedation.

  • To register your qualifications, please complete the Application for Registration of Qualifications (PDF) and submit it to the College with the applicable fee (C$150). Your application will be processed in 2-3 months.
  • To apply for facility authorization, please complete the Application for Facility Authorization (PDF) and submit it to the College with the applicable fee (C$3,000). Facility inspection and authorization typically takes 6-8 months.

I intend to have another dentist or physician administer deep sedation to patients in my office

If you own a dental office, and intend to have another dentist or physician administer deep sedation, you must have your facility inspected by the College. Please be aware that you are responsible for ensuring that any visiting dentist or physician who administers sedation in your office has the appropriate qualifications.

  • To apply for facility authorization, please complete the Application for Facility Authorization (PDF) and submit it to the College with the applicable fee (C$3,000). Facility inspection and authorization typically takes 6-8 months.

I intend to administer deep sedation to patients in other practitioners' offices

If you intend to administer deep sedation to patients in other dentists’ offices authorized by CDSBC, you must have your qualifications registered with the College.
