Dr. Chris Hacker, Registrar/CEO
Dr. Chris Hacker is the registrar and CEO of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC — the regulatory college that oversees BC’s 10,000 certified dental assistants, dental therapists, and dentists.
Under Chris’s leadership, CDSBC has undergone a transformation to become a modern regulator in service of patients and the public. He has delivered on a series of key changes to improve CDSBC’s performance and deliver on its vision of public protection, regulatory excellence, and optimal health. During the pandemic, he championed the development of guidance for all oral health professionals to deliver safe care to British Columbians.
Chris has direct experience providing healthcare that improves the quality of his patients’ lives, thanks to 35 years as a practising dentist. His open communications style and his treatment of his patients as partners in their oral health care helped him to build trusting and long-lasting relationships – skills that serve him well in regulatory leadership.
Chris serves on the executive of the BC Health Regulators, which brings together all of BC’s health regulatory colleges. At the national level, he is a member of the Canadian Dental Regulatory Authorities Federation, and serves as an examiner for the National Dental Examining Board, which establishes the standard for competence for dentists in Canada.
