Seeking CDSBC Committee Members – Apply by June 12

The College of Dental Surgeons of BC (CDSBC) invites British Columbians who are passionate about safe, ethical dental care to join a CDSBC committee. We have 10 committees that require members in the following groups:

  • CDSBC registrants (dentists or dental therapists) or certified dental assistants,
  • Qualified members of the public

We’re looking for individuals who are new to committees and College work, as well as experienced committee members (those who are currently on a CDSBC Committee or who have been a member in the past).

Our selection process is based on the applicant’s core competencies, values and attributes. As a committee member, your role will be to uphold CDSBC’s mandate to protect the public rather than to represent the interests of a particular group.

You can expect to spend six to 12 hours a month on your committee work. This will include planning for or attending meetings, which may take place at the CDSBC office in Vancouver or be held by telephone or video conference. Committee members will receive compensation in accordance with CDSBC’s Expense Policy.

Background

The regulation of dentistry in BC is shared by members of the public and dental professionals who work side-by-side on our committees to protect patients and the public. Over the past year, CDSBC has completely re-designed our committees to reflect our over-arching commitment to protecting patients and the public. The changes will increase public representation and make our decision-making more streamlined and effective.

The new committee structure has been approved by the Board as part of a 32-item Action Plan that CDSBC is implementing in response to recommendations from the Cayton Report for strengthening our regulatory performance.

Following a notice period, which ended May 11, 2020, amended CDSBC Bylaws will be filed with the Ministry of Health, and the new committees will come into force. You can read more about the changes and the proposed amendments to the bylaws here.
