Meet CDSBC's staff dentists, who share regular
practice tips to help you improve your everyday dental practice, hone your professional judgment, and deal with some of the unique challenges that practitioners face.
Dr. Phil Barer has been a CDSBC Complaint Investigator since 2012. He graduated from UBC Dentistry in 1982 and completed his specialty training in Orthodontics at the University of Washington in 1984. He has been in private practice as an orthodontic specialist and has taught in the UBC Orthodontic program for over 30 years. Phil holds a fellowship in the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Orthodontics and is a diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.
Dr. Sigrid Coil has been a CDSBC Complaint Investigator since 2013. She graduated from UBC Dentistry in 1991 and practised dentistry for 20 years prior to joining the College. Sigrid has experience in geriatric dentistry and was part of a dental team at the Fraser Valley Cancer Centre. She also taught pediatric dentistry part-time at UBC.
Dr. Chris Hacker is Acting Registrar of the College. He was previously CDSBC's Director of Professional Practice, and before that a Complaint Investigator and a Policy and Practice Advisor. He is a founding member of the Study Club Alliance of BC and a member of the American Academy of Gold Foil Operators, the Academy of RV Tucker Study Clubs, the American College of Dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy. He has practised general dentistry for 35 years.
Dr. Cathy McGregor has been at the College since 2009. She began as a Complaint Investigator and now oversees the College's health program, in addition to monitoring and remedial education for registrants. Cathy is an examiner for the National Dental Examining Board (NDEB) of Canada. She received her dentistry degree from UBC in 1980 and worked in private practice for 28 years. She also taught part-time at UBC for over 25 years.
Dr. Meredith Moores has been a CDSBC Complaint Investigator since 2014.
Prior to joining the College, she practised general dentistry for
26 years. Meredith provided geriatric dental services for Providence Health Care and served on committees related to geriatric and hospital dentistry. She was also a member of the Vancouver and District Dental Society Board and helped develop the Oral Cancer Screening Guidelines.
Dr. Alex Penner has been investigating complaints at the College since 2002. Alex is a former Deputy Registrar of the College and worked with the Ethics Committee for six years. He graduated from UBC Dentistry in 1985 and continues to practise dentistry on a part-time basis.
Dr. Garry Sutton has been a CDSBC Complaint Investigator and Practice Advisor since 2008 and has practised general dentistry for over 35 years. He is a past president of the Vancouver Gold and Porcelain Study Club, a former board member of the Vancouver and District Dental Society and a current board member and volunteer with the Dental Mission Project. Garry also participates in the BCDA mentorship program, teaches part-time at UBC, and is an invigilator for the NDEB.
