NEWS BULLETIN
We are hosting listening sessions to engage registrants and stakeholders on policy development initiatives. The sessions emphasize registrant discussion and CDSBC listening. The insights gained through the listening sessions will enhance our work on key topics.
The first listening session took place in Victoria on 3 November. The 36 attendees discussed four key topics: updates to the Quality Assurance Program; the business of dentistry and corporate structures; dental laboratory fees; and emerging issues in dentistry. The report summarizing all the feedback is available at the link below.

At the 25 November 2016 meeting, the College Board placed a moratorium on new applications to register credentials to provide moderate pediatric sedation (patients 12 years and under) for dentists who have learned the modality in a short-course format (i.e. less than one year). This moratorium takes effect immediately and will be in place for one year to allow the Sedation Committee time to conduct an analysis and make its recommendations on the safety of this modality.
Please note, this does not affect the status for dentists already recognized by CDSBC to provide moderate pediatric sedation.

At the 25 November 2016 meeting, the College Board approved changes to require capnography for deep sedation patients, and capnography and/or pre-tracheal stethoscope monitoring for moderate sedation patients.
The requirements will come into force on 25 May 2017.
The Board also approved updates to standards & guidelines for deep sedation and GA Services in non-hospital facilities. These changes deal with: the training requirements for practitioners administering deep sedation or GA; aligning with recent changes to minimal and moderate sedation requirements for emergency drills to be conducted and documented every three months; updating the instructions regarding fasting pre-treatment; and updates to the armamentarium with respect to adenosine and amiodarone.

Online renewal will open in mid-January 2017. Registrants can expect a renewal notice to arrive in the mail shortly after the holidays.
Changes to Annual Renewal for 2017/18:
-
Criminal Record Check Process: All registrants are required by the Provincial Government to have a Criminal Record Check (CRC) completed at first registration and every five years thereafter. Until now, registrants applied for CRC themselves. Starting this year, CDSBC will collect one fifth of the CRC fee at annual renewal and effective 1 March 2017, will automatically submit CRC applications on behalf of registrants.
-
Incorporations: This year information about dental corporations will only appear in the renewal forms for the individual shareholder who was selected as "corporate administrator." The corporate administrator is responsible for verifying and updating the corporation's information. To update your current dental corporation permit or to obtain a new permit, click
here.
