Advisory Notice Re: Sedation Training Company

Posted 30 June 2017

The College has been notified that a company offering training in dental sedation has provided incorrect information about the inspection process for moderate sedation.  It is unfortunate that several registrants have been upset by this occurrence.

On 24 June the Board approved the inspection process framework for practices undertaking moderate sedation (practices undertaking deep sedation and general anesthesia are already inspected by the College).

The College’s objective is to provide you with the necessary information and supporting documentation to achieve compliance.  As a practice that provides moderate sedation, here is what you need to know:

  • The College's inspections of moderate sedation facilities have not yet started.
  • The program of inspections will not start until inspectors have been identified and trained, and until information packages have been prepared and circulated.
  • Only practices that provide moderate IV (parenteral) sedation will be inspected.
  • Before inspections occur there will be a period of time for practitioners to perform self-assessments. Documents and user guides for the self-assessments will be provided. We anticipate that inspections will not roll out for at least 6-8 months.
  • Information about how to meet the requirements are set out in CDSBC’s standards & guidelines document Minimal and Moderate Sedation Services in Dentistry, and detailed checklists will be provided prior to your inspection.

If you have questions, please contact Natasha Tibbo, Sedation Program Coordinator, at or at 604-736-3621.
