BISPHENOL A
Numerous stories have appeared in the news media this week in
anticipation of a report from Health Canada about the safety of bisphenol
A (BPA). BPA is a compound used in
food storage products, household plastics and some dental
polymers.
The College of
Dental Surgeons will inform its members
when new information is available from Health Canada
regarding the use of bisphenol A in dental materials.
At present, dentists can verify the presence of BPA in the Material
Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) that accompany new shipments of
materials.
Additional information about the use of bisphenol A in dentistry is
available from the Journal of the Canadian Dental Association via the following
web links.

part of the federal government’s initiative to assess and manage hundreds of
chemical substances under its Chemicals Management Plan.
