Fines Disposition Fund

May 2002

Criteria

  1. Organizations (other than the Save a Smile Campaign and the BC Public Outreach Fund) may apply for a grant once in five years.
  2. A grant will not be provided to an individual or an organization that would charge the public a fee to recuperate the funds.
  3. All requests for funding are reviewed by the Fines Disposition Committee and recommendations are submitted to the Executive Committee or Council for approval.

There are three appropriate avenues of disposition of monies arising from fines assessed as the result of consent orders or inquiry proceedings. These options are:

  1. Charity (e.g., Save a Smile);
  2. Groups in need but unable to receive dental care, such as the UBC Dental Clinic (provide transportation), Salvation Army, and any other educational institution providing service to the public, transport from long-term care institutions for prosthetic services, or for special needs patients, etc.;
  3. To provide a grant to the BC Public Outreach Fund administered by the Dentistry Canada Fund for dentists and certified dental assistants providing dental treatment exclusively in residential/long-term care facilities.
