HEALTH PROFESSIONS ACT
April 3, 2007
HPA Bylaws – Consultation Period Ends
Each regulatory College under the Health Professions Act will have its own bylaws. Draft Bylaws approved by the Council of the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia in October 2006 were posted on December 20, 2006 by government so that dentists, certified dental assistants, and any other interested parties could provide feedback as part of the public consultation process. This consultation period ended on March 20, 2006.
Government will assimilate and consider the feedback it received and will meet with College representatives to discuss potential revisions to the Bylaws if required.
The Bylaws set out the details of the operation of the organization, including the duties and responsibilities of a governing board, committees and the registrar; qualifications for registration; and the regulation of professional conduct. A PDF of the draft Bylaws is below. The Winter 2007 edition of our

Proposed CDSBC Bylaws
HPA Regulations
On November 21, 2006, the Ministry of Health posted draft Regulations under the Health Professions Act for dentists, chiropractors, medical practitioners and pharmacists. These documents set out the proposed scope of practice for each of these professions. A draft of the Regulation regarding the master list of reserved actions that are regulated under the Health Professions Act was also posted. This document outlined all of the actions that are limited to being performed by professionals regulated under the Health Professions Act. It is important to note that more than one profession may be granted the same reserved action so that two or more professions may have overlapping scopes of practice. Links to the draft Regulations are set out below. Further information is also available in the December 18, 2006 CDSBC Contact Bulletin.
The consultation period for registrants and others to provide feedback to government regarding the Regulations ended on February 21, 2007.
Following are links to the proposed Regulations that were posted for public consultation.
