Q1 - What are the standards of practice for general anaesthesia, deep sedation and/or minimal and moderate sedation while providing dental services in British Columbia?
A - Refer to "General Anaesthesia Services in Dentistry" "Deep Sedation Services in Dentistry" and "Minimal and Moderate Sedation Services in Dentistry".
Q2 - What are the criteria for starting a new study club?
A - Refer to "Criteria for Acceptance" under Study Clubs.
Q3 - Can I dismiss a patient?
A - Yes. If discontinuation of treatment is the only alternative, the reasons should be noted in the patient records. You must be available to provide any emergency care required for the next 60 days only. You may choose to offer the names of other local dentists or provide the BCDA telephone numbers for referrals in the area.
See the Sentinel newsletter article “Dismissing a Patient – Practical and Ethical Concerns” and/or "Section II - Record Completion" in the Dental Records Management document in the BC Dental Manual for further details.
Q4 - A CDA has successfully completed a course in phlebotomy, can this skill now be delegated?
A - No. Unless the CDA is also educated as a registered nurse, taking blood is not in the skills listed in 10.17 of the Rules under the Dentists Act.
Q5 - How do I find out what my 9-digit CDA number is?
A - Contact the Canadian Dental Association at 1-800-267-6354 and ask for the number services division.
Q6 - If I have a question or need a copy of the Fee Guide who do I talk to?
A - Please direct your inquiries to the BC Dental Association as they publish the Fee Guide.
Q7 - How can I get another copy of the Dental Directory?
A -
You can search the Directory of Dentists online by name, location and other criteria. Registrants can purchase a second copy for
$28, including GST. The price for non-registrants is $224. Please send in a written request and include your name and registration number and enclose a cheque made payable to the CDSBC or send in a copy of the credit card authorization form to pay by either Visa or MasterCard.
